2 MA Fishermen Busted for Monkfish Violations

On Wednesday, March 29, a Massachusetts Environmental Police Officer cited two commercial fishermen in Harwich with harvest rules violations. The officer patrolling Saquetucket Harbor in Harwich, MA, an area that recently received several complaints regarding vessels offloading catches exceeding the legal limit.

While on patrol, the officer observed two vessels offloading catches of monkfish. The officer subsequently approached the captains and conducted an inspection of their catch.

The inspection found that each vessel’s catch was well over the legal limit. The catch of Vessel 1 was 1,293 pounds over the legal limit, while the catch of Vessel 2 was 977 pounds over. The case has been turned over to the National Marine Fisheries Service for further investigation.
