3 Rescued as Tugboat Sinks off Point Judith. RI

The Coast Guard rescued three mariners after their tugboat began taking on water off Point Judith, RI, forcing them to climb aboard the 108-foot barge they were towing. The incident took place at around 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 25.

A Coast Guard Station Point Judith 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew assisted in the rescue. By the time they arrived on scene, the tug was completely submerged and all three tug crewmembers were on the barge. The RB-M crew rescued the tug’s crew and safely transported them back to the station. No injuries were reported.

The weather on scene was five mph winds and three- to five-foot feet.
