3 Rescued from Capsized Sailboat in LI Sound

A Coast Guard crew rescued 3 people from a capsized sailboat near Bartlett Reef, Connecticut, on Sunday, Sept. 5.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Search and Rescue coordinators at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a call from a crewmember aboard the motor vessel Mary Ellen reporting an 18’ capsized catamaran with 3 people in the water near Bartlett Reef.

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast was issued via VHF 16 and a Coast Guard Station New London small boat crew was launched.

The small boat crew arrived on scene and located 2 adult males and 1 adult female wearing lifejackets and clinging to the capsized catamaran. All 3 people were rescued from the water with no medical concerns reported.

The capsized vessel was towed to Pleasure Beach in New London, Connecticut and the 3 people were safely transferred onto a nearby dock.
