The Coast Guard is crediting a Good Samaritan boater for rescuing 3 people from the water near Wadding River on Long Island.
While transiting the area on Saturday, July 12, the boater discovered 3 people in the water, brought them aboard, and took them safely back to shore.
The rescued boaters were reported to have been swimming for nearly an hour after their 14’ aluminum skiff capsized.
The skiff was later found drifting 6 miles north of Wadding River.
“This is a perfect example of how wearing life jackets saves lives,” said Cmdr. Jonathan Theel, a search and rescue mission coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound.
