5 Rescued in Maine Lake Capsize

July 19, 2010: According to an article in the Bangor Daily News, 4 teenagers and a camp counselor were rescued after their 2004 Mastercraft ski boat flipped on Maine’s Lake Cobbossee on Monday, July 19, at approximately 10:00 a.m.

The teens were attending the Camp All Star sports camp at Kents Hill School. According to the article, one of the teens was sitting in the counselor’s lap while driving the boat, and accidentally pinned the throttle, causing the boat to nosedive and overturn at a speed of 40 mph. The Maine Warden Service and the Winthrop Fire and Police Depts. responded. Several of the teens suffered lacerations from the shattered windshield.
