8 Rescued After Boat Swamps in Pt. Judith Breachway

Providence Journal: Five children and three adults were rescued Wednesday afternoon [July 4] from an overloaded 15′ Boston Whaler that was swamped by a wave in the breachway near George’s of Galilee.

Narragansett Harbormaster Kevin Connors said he saw the small craft as he came in behind one of the Block Island ferries. “It looked to me like a grossly overloaded boat. I knew it was just a recipe for disaster,” he said Wednesday night.

He activated the blue lights on his 24′ police boat and made a beeline for the Whaler.

“They took a swell right over the bow,” Connors said, “and it washed two of the kids from the front to the back.”
