Aquaculture Bylaw Debated in Mattapoisett, MA

SouthCoastToday: The first draft of a controversial, proposed bylaw to regulate aquaculture in Mattapoisett (MA) waters will be posted on the town website for public comment for the next 2 weeks before selectmen tweak and vote on the final plan.
Selectmen Chairman Jordan Collyer made that announcement Tuesday night at the start of a meeting during which arguments pro and con centered on the water depth allowed for new aquacultural use along Mattapoisett’s shore area.
The bylaw, as presented by members of an aquacultural bylaw study committee, mandates a minimum 1-fathom (6-foot) water depth for any new aquacultural use.
