Atlantic Sturgeon Population Studied

A new study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on the population of Atlantic sturgeon on the East Coast suggests that while new population estimates are encouraging, they still have a long way to go.

The study was a new model based on sturgeon living in the ocean rather than rivers. The estimate was between 165,400 and 744,600 fish, which represents just a fraction of the population prior to the collapse of the early 1900s.
