Bass Harbor Head Light Under New Management
November 19, 2017
Management and ownership of the 159-year-old Bass Harbor Head Light in Tremont, ME, will be officially transferred from the U.S. Coast Guard to the National Park Service.
The lighthouse property consists of 2.5 acres completely surrounded by Acadia National Park land. Some 180,000 people visit the light each year.
In order to help generate revenue needed for maintaining the light, the NPS is considering turning the 1,600’ lightkeeper’s house into a vacation rental.
