Blue Planet 32E Power Cat is Electric
April 13, 2011
The new Blue Planet Catamaran 32E is the world’s first 32-foot electric-powered catamaran. Sleek, roomy and easy-handling, the 32E is powered by clean, quiet Torqeedo Twin Cruise electric outboard motors, which optimize efficiency through an innovative prop design, propulsion system and lithium-battery technology. A hybrid version, the 32H, sporting a pair of Tohatsu 30-hp 4-stroke outboards is also available.
The 32E all-electric model is powered by either Twin Cruise 2.0 or 4.0 electric motors. The 2.0 setup offers 8 hp and operates on 24V, while the 4.0 system offers 16 hp on 48V. With the thrust force of a 6 hp internal-combustion engine and a range of 80 miles, the 32E can cruise at speeds of up to 8 mph. Solar panels and wind generators help charge the batteries. The hybrid version tops out at 15 to 20 mph.
The Blue Planet 32 features a set of semi-displacement hulls and can sleep 6. It features a double berth and 4 singles, a galley, 2 heads, showers and sinks. The deck has plenty of seating and storage, a cooler, refrigerator and a neat retractable ramp in the center of the bow that makes it easy to board or go ashore.
