Boat Burns on Maine Pond

Eight people were rescued after an 18-foot Rinker inboard powerboat caught fire and burned to the waterline on July 4 on Morrill Pond in Hartland, Maine.

According to the Portland Press Herald, boat owner Christopher Gibson had stopped to take aboard another boater when the boat suddenly burst into flames.

Gibson said that the boat, a 1997 model, had been retrofitted recently with a new engine, new interior and stereo system.

No severe injuries were reported.
