Boat Catches Fire, Sinks off Harwich, MA

The Cape Cod Times reports that a small powerboat caught fire and eventually sank about a mile east of Saquetucket Harbor in Harwich on Sunday, June 7, at about 8:00 a.m. Harwich Deputy Harbormaster Bill Neiser and Assistant Harbormaster Conor Smith were alerted to the fire and rescued the boat’s sole occupant, who had been unable to extinguish the flames with his onboard fire extinguishers.
The boat sank in 5’ and 9’ of water, and will be marked by a buoy until the wreck can be removed.
No word on what caused the fire.
