Boat Launch Facility Proposed for Norwich, CT

The Norwich Bulletin reports that plans are moving ahead for a new boat launch facility on Shipping Street in Norwich, Connecticut, that would offer ample parking and better access to the Thames River for larger boats. The new launch, which has been considered since the early ‘90s, would replace the old boat launch at Howard T. Brown Memorial Park.

Here’s an excerpt from the Bulletin:

The Norwich Harbor Management Commission toured 2 pieces of land on Shipping Street Tuesday with officials from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to assess the viability of building a boat launch there.

“I think everyone is in agreement things need to change, and this seems to be one of the prime locations we could possibly do this,” commission Chairman John Paul Mereen told the group.
Mereen envisioned the future as he pointed to a hollowed-out accessory building covered in spray paint and filled with rusty metal shelves.

“Here’s a bait shop and snack bar. Cheeseburgers, a deck, the whole thing,” he said.
