Boats Damaged in New Bedford, MA

SouthCoastToday: At least 11 sailboats slipped their moorings Sunday afternoon in New Bedford Harbor, with one vessel crashing into the Fairhaven Bridge.

Tugboats were busy throughout the rain- and wind-soaked day recovering the loose vessels before they drifted off.

However, four loose boats still crashed into the Fairhaven Bridge. One sailboat’s mast snapped and fell across the roadway, causing officials to close the bridge for about three hours in the middle of the day.

New Bedford police and fire marine units helped tugboats corral the loose vessels in the harbor.
