Boats Damaged in Salem Fireworks Display

Salem News reports that several boats were damaged by the Fourth of July fireworks display in Salem, MA.

Several customers at Pickering Wharf Marina were dismayed to find that their boats had suffered cosmetic damage from the fireworks, which were launched from Derby Wharf.

The boats apparently suffered burn marks from the expired shells, sulfur stains, and in some cases damage to their canvas tops. The overall damage estimate for the boats is about $50,000.

It is unclear whether the city or the fireworks company is responsible for the damages.
