Boothbay Windjammer Days Coming Up

The 56th annual Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Days Festival will take place June 24-30 in Boothbay Harbor.

Aside from highlighting 16 classic windjammers, the weeklong festival includes a street parade, fish relay race, antique and lighted boat parade, fireworks, live music, food and drink vendors and much more.

Also featured are kids’ activities from the new Boothbay Sea & Science open house, Wee Mateys at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, the Boothbay Region Land Trust and Kids’ Alley tents, the Maine State Aquarium and pirates.

A lobster-eating contest and a tug-of-war across the harbor are other highlights, and new this year is the Windjammers Got Talent talent show.

Tours are planned at the U.S. Coast Guard Station, Nathaniel Wilson’s Sail Loft, and of some of the visiting schooners, specifically the Adventure and Harvey Gamage on June 29 and the Ernestina-Morrissey reception at Bristol Marine, where restoration of the grand dame of Grand Banks fishing schooners is ongoing.

The Gathering of the Fleet (formerly the Parade of Sail) takes place on Wednesday, June 27, between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., when the local and visiting windjammers arrive in the harbor. Before and during the Gathering, local boat companies are offering special trips out to see the majestic beauties sailing in Linekin Bay.
