The non-profit Boston Harbor Island Alliance (BHIA) was one of 11 groups across the country selected to participate in the 2013 National Park Foundation (NPF) challenge grants, which aim to expand the role of citizen, corporate and foundation support for America’s national parks. NPF is teaming up with BHIA and 10 other non-profit partner organizations at the following parks: Boston Harbor Islands, Sequoia, Mesa Verde, Saguaro, Yosemite, Mount Rushmore, Great Smoky Mountains, Big Bend, Glacier, Rock Creek and Grand Canyon.

The NPF and BHIA have identified Peddocks Island trails and signage as the NPF project in Boston Harbor Islands. The challenge grant designation means that the NPF will raise $100,000 and BHIA will need to raise $150,000 in matching funds.

The grant from the National Park Foundation supports one of BHIA’s signature projects, the restoration and re-opening of Peddocks Island.
