Busman’s Holiday: CT River Northern Pike
July 7, 2020
Two years ago, we joined Bill Bernhardt and Chuck Degray, two veteran guides with Lopstick Outfitters in Pittsburg, NH, for a busman’s holiday outing on the Connecticut River, well below the sections of river where they normally guide clients to trout and salmon. The target? Big northern pike, which can grow to over 40 inches in the quieter, downriver stretches of river.
The fish are far from easy to tempt, and success often requires hours of casting giant streamers along the banks. But with each cast there’s the promise of an explosive strike, plus you never know what else lurks in the river!
