Buzzards Bay Project Funding Creates Controversy
December 17, 2010
SouthCoast Today: The city and the Coalition for Buzzards Bay on Friday submitted revised project budgets to the New Bedford Harbor Trustee Council, outlining how the 5 projects proposed by the 2 entities can be funded from the trust’s remaining funds.
In a preliminary funding decision released last month, the trustee council recommended about $2.6 million in funding for 2 Coalition projects in Acushnet but passed over all 3 of the city’s applications.
The remainder of the funds—about $2.8 million—were directed to projects in South Dartmouth and off the coast of Mattapoisett and Marion, sparking outrage among many city residents who thought all remaining money in the trust should go to city projects.
