Calamari May Be Rhode Island’s Official Appetizer
July 3, 2013
Step aside buffalo wings and potato skins. In Rhode Island, calamari is the preferred appetizer. And that might become law.
The Rhode Island House of Representatives has approved a bill that would make Rhode Island-style calamari the state’s official appetizer. According to WPRI.com, the Ocean State has the largest squid-fishing fleet on the East Coast and with a take of 7 million pounds a year, accounts for more than half of the squid landing in the Northeast.
The bill still has to pass the state Senate and be signed by the governor to become law.
