The owners of two of the four remaining cottages on North Beach in Chatham, Massachusetts, said tearful goodbyes to their seasonal homes recently, as demolition crews reduced rooms to piles of wood and debris, according to an article on CapeCodOnline.com.

Since the barrier beach running from Nauset Beach in Orleans down to the mouth of Chatham Harbor was breached by a Patriots Day nor’easter in 2007, erosion on the sandy spit has accelerated. The waves have eaten the sand and flattened the dunes, bulldozed vegetation and taken houses.
