Cape Cod Iceboarding Takes Off

CapeCodOnline: With the wind whipping across Long Pond, Jeffrey Brown balances on what looks like a skateboard with skates instead of wheels, holds onto the boom of a windsurfing sail and hurtles across the ice.
“You get launched like a slingshot,” Brown, a 50-year-old Pocasset resident and avid ice-boarder, said.
Brown is one of hundreds of ice-boarders around the world, and about 150 of them compete to see who can post the fastest times. Just last week at Lake Wequaquet in Centerville, Brown clocked 47.79 knots, roughly 55 mph, according to the website, GPS IceSailing, which tracks competitors’ progress.
