Car Plunges into Merrimack River, Body Recovered

The Coast Guard has recovered the body of a white male who drove off the James Greenleaf Whittier Bridge (Rte. 95) on Monday, January 31, and plunged into the Merrimack River at around 8:15 p.m.
The Coast Guard launched a 25-foot rescue boat with a dive team and a 47-foot utility boat from Station Merrimack River, along with a rescue helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, to assist in the search.
The Amesbury Fire Department also sent an airboat to the scene. The unidentified body was recovered at approximately 11:30 p.m., and the car was removed from the river early Tuesday morning.
