Kayakers Rescued Near Shinnecock Bay
July 8, 2014
The Coast Guard rescued 3 people aboard a Good Samaritan’s vessel near Shinnecock Bay, New York, on July 7.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a call at approximately 4:55 p.m. from a Good Samaritan boater reporting that his battery had died shortly after picking up 2 kayakers whose vessel had become unmanageable due to strong winds.
Coast Guard Station Shinnecock launched a rescue boat crew, who arrived on scene and escorted one adult and one 12-year-old female off the disabled vessel and brought them to the station to be picked up by relatives. The Good Samaritan contacted a commercial towing agency for assistance.
Both of the kayakers were reported to be in good condition.
