Chatham Light Goes Dark
October 14, 2010
According to a report in the Cape Cod Times, Chatham Light in Chatham, Massachusetts, was not lit on Wednesday.
The motor that turns the light burned out earlier in the day Wednesday, Coast Guard firefighter Tasha Manchester said.
Since the lighthouse, which flashes its strong beam over dangerous shoals at the mouth of Chatham Harbor, is an official aid to navigation, the Coast Guard was broadcasting alerts to mariners that it was not operational.
Manchester said a repair crew was supposed to arrive Thursday to fix the motor.
