Chester, CT, Winter Carnivale This Weekend

The 2011 Chester Winter Carnivale is set to kick off on Sunday, February 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Chester Center—rain, snow or shine. Admission in free, and food is provided by local restaurants and the Chester Rotary.

Highlights include:

    An ice-carving competition will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot behind 4 Water Street, with judging shortly after. Spectators may vote for their favorite sculpture to win the “People’s Choice Award.”

  • A “Chilly Chili Cook Off” will be held at the Chester Hose Company Fire House, at 6 High Street, from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Chester Hose Company. Contact (860-526-0841) for more information. Attendees can purchase tickets to the cook-off at the door for $5.
  • A procession of festively decorated tractors will cruise up and down Main Street beginning at 2:00 p.m. at North Quarter Park. Contact (860-526-4442; nbyrne@snet.net) for more information. Parking is available at the Maple Street and Water Street lots. Courtesy shuttle bus provided by Chester Village West into town from commuter lot at Exit 6.
