The Coast Guard was involved in the rescue of 2 hikers on Friday, April 17, on the shores of Lake Champlain after one of the hikers fell 60’ down a steep embankment at Rock Point in Burlington. The other hiker was injured after attempting to help her friend. Once the injured hikers were located, it was determined that the quickest and easiest way for rescuers to remove them was via a Coast Guard rescue boat, which was able to get close to shore. According to the Burlington Free Press, Karen Ross and Elisabeth Podesta were taken to University of Vermont Medical Center, where they were listed in serious condition Friday evening.
