Coast Guard Medivacs Fisherman off Gloucester

An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod medically evacuated a man from the fishing vessel Sammy Jo 70 miles east of Gloucester, Massachusetts, at around 2:46 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5.
Coast Guard Sector Boston received a call from the Sammy Jo at around 2:00 p.m. over VHF Channel 16 stating that a 55-year-old crewmember had sustained a head injury 2 days before and was now experiencing swelling.
After consulting the flight surgeon at Air Station Cape Cod, the man was airlifted and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. No word yet on the victim’s current condition.
