Coast Guard Seeks Info on Derelict NY Boat

The Coast Guard is seeking information for the owner of a boat found floating in the vicinity of Orient Point, New York.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders were notified by a Good Samaritan at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, of a 12’, unmanned, aluminum rowboat floating near Long Island, New York.

Aboard the vessel were four personal floatation devices, fishing line, and two knives. The vessel’s oars were in the oarlocks and a 6’ line was tied securely to the front of the boat.

Coast Guard Station New London launched and began their initial search in Plum Gut and moved from the north shore of Greenport toward Orient Point. Southold Police completed a shoreline search from Greenport to Orient Point. All searches yielded negative results.
