Coast Guard to Transfer Stewardship of Boston Light Station
July 8, 2020
After 81 years of maintaining and operating Boston Light on Little Brewster Island, the U.S. Coast Guard is transferring stewardship of the 304-year-old light station.
The transfer, which is being processed under the National Lighthouse Preservation Act, will ensure that pubic access to Little Brewster is ensured, and that the historic character of the light station is preserved. e National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000 allows lighthouses to be transferred at no cost to government agencies, nonprofit corporations and educational and community development organizations. As of yet, no group or individual has been named as the new steward.
