Coastal Survey Celebration in CT

Fairfield Sun: A nautical journey celebrating the accomplishments of the nation’s first Coastal Survey as well as the rich maritime history of Fairfield County, will be the cornerstone of “From Sea to Shining Sea,” an exhibition of coastal navigation and the ship models of Southport resident James S. Wiser, at the Fairfield Museum and History Center.

The exhibition, which opens today, Saturday, March 12 through April 24, will offer a flotilla of detailed historic ships, modeled by Wiser; famous maritime paintings by Frank W. Pulling of the rescue of the tall ships, Garland and Rienzi; and a third painting of The Barque Edna, built in Black Rock, then Fairfield (now Bridgeport); along with a historic map from the museum’s collection.
