Company to Offer Boat Tours of Wind Farm
March 22, 2011
Yesterday Cape Wind and Hy-Line Cruises announced plans to build a visitor center and offer boat tours of the proposed Cape Wind farm to be built in Nantucket Sound off Cape Cod.
Hy-Line has offered ferry service to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket for more than 50 years. The company’s guided tours of the wind farm will take place both during construction and after completion.
Meanwhile, the visitor center will educate visitors of all ages about the history of the Cape Wind project and energy use on Cape Cod, the U.S. and around the world. Specific emphasis will be placed on the history of energy use on Cape Cod and the Islands ranging from historic windmills to whale oil, to fossil fuels and the new transition to a clean energy economy led by citizens of Cape Cod and Massachusetts.
Cape Wind president Jim Gordon says the tours and visitor center will help make the wind farm a world-class tourist attraction and will help stimulate job growth in the area.
