Connecticut Boating Group Eyes $1.8 Million Schooner

The group Connecticut Community Boating hopes to purchase a 171-foot, 3-masted schooner currently docked in Mystic, Connecticut. But to do so the group is racing against the clock and against the efforts of other groups from out of state.
In an article on CTPost.com, Connecticut Community Boating Executive Director Chris German said he envisions keeping the schooner in Connecticut and using it as both a floating corporate party boat and a nautical summer camp for underprivileged children.
But raising the money for a down payment could prove challenging. The schooner comes with a $1.8 million price tag and a deadline of May 1. And, making things more difficult, companies from other states have shown interest in the vessel.
