Crane Barge Sinks in Providence River

 

The Coast Guard responded to the Port of Providence after a crane barge sank in the Providence River on Monday evening, Oct. 11.

 

At 6:00 p.m., the barge was resting on the river bottom just north of the Sims Metal Management terminal off Allens Avenue, according to the Providence Journal.

 

As the barge sank, a boat that was tied to the barge had to be cut loose and secured to a nearby wharf.

 

The cause of the sinking is unknown.
