CT Oyster Farmers Hard Hit by Vibrio Outbreak

For decades, Connecticut oysters have been in strong demand across the country and internationally, particularly in the summertime.

One reason is that the state’s Long Island Sound-grown Blue Point oysters, unlike some warmer water varieties, had never seen a widespread, bacteria-related recall.

That made the August 5 [2013] voluntary recall of oysters harvested off Norwalk and Westport all the more disturbing.
