Data-Collection Buoy Installed off Block Island

The Block Island Times reports on a temporary, 40-foot-tall, data-collection buoy that was installed by Deep Water Wind about a mile due west of the Coast Guard station, off the west side of the island.

The Times suggests that the buoy will give residents some idea of what the proposed wind farm turbines will look like from shore, although the test buoy is much shorter than the actual wind turbines, which will tower some 500 feet above the water and be placed 3 miles offshore. The test buoy will be in place for the next 5 to 7 weeks.
