Dave’s Excellent Adventure
May 14, 2011
Weekends always seem to be comprised of family obligations and the proverbial honey-do list that never seems to end. You cross one thing off and there are usually 2 or more items added.
Today could have been that way but it wasn’t. My wife, Deb, said she would have some sort of adventure planned for us but wouldn’t say.
It was pretty gloomy out, with overcast skies and temps in the high-50s to low-60s so I assumed it would be a movie. It certainly wasn’t going to involve something by the water.
I arrived home from my usual Saturday morning rituals and was told we were going to the “Man Mall.” Now, if you’re from southern New England that can only mean Patriot Place in Foxboro, Massachusetts, and the ginormous Bass Pro Shop.
Even though Bass Pro has been in the area for a couple of years now, I’ve never been.
Let me tell you, it’s worth the price of admission.
There was anything and everything you could think of. Boats and motors, kayaks, canoes, every fishing item imaginable, guns, cloths, stuffed animals of all sorts, fish, boats coming down from the sky and even a whale for goodness sake.
It was like being 8 years old again in the penny candy store. I’ve never seen so many men, women and children with their eyes lit up. Maybe at Disney.
There was a great deal to take in. I hope the photographs allow you to share in my experience.
It was a great couple of hours, and yes we did leave some money with Bass Pro.
The afternoon was topped off with a bit of beer and beef sliders at the CBS Sports Scene.
It was an excellent and appreciated adventure.
