Dead Humpback Washes Ashore on Long Island

Photo courtesy The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation. A 35’ humpback whale carcass was discovered in the surf off Dune Road near Triton Lane in East Quogue [New York] on Wednesday morning [April 17].

Rob DiGiovanni, executive director and senior biologist at the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, said local residents reported the mammal just before 8:00 a.m. through the foundation’s rescue hotline.
