East Bridgewater, MA, Dam Eyed for Removal
April 25, 2014
The Brockton Enterprise reports that the state of Massachusetts, in partnership with the Nature Conservancy, have plans to remove the Cotton Gin Mill Dam in East Bridgewater, MA. The dam is located on the Satucket River, which connects to the ocean via the Taunton River and Narragansett Bay.
The dam was built about 1843, and currently blocks access for migratory river herring to some 700 acres of spawning habitat.
The dam removal could begin as early as 2017, and may cost upwards of $300,000, based on similar projects.
