Eastern LI Sound Report: 4.26.13

River’s End Tackle in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, passes along the following early-season report on fishing action in Long Island Sound for the week ending 4/26/13.

Striped Bass: Since we announced the official start of the spring run, the action has slowed to a walk. There have been steady reports of bass in the lower Connecticut River this week, with pockets of fish scattered. The first job is to find them, and slow trolling a small swimming plug is a good way to do this. The water has been on the coffee side this week but is cleaning up slowly. There’s still a lot of snow to melt up north. With mild weather predicted the next 5 days, it may be as good as the spring run of schoolies gets next week. Don’t wait—go. The Thames hasn’t picked up and the Housatonic slowed at bit earlier this week, but the action is on the upswing now.

Blackfish: It looks like a decent end to the spring season, which ends this coming Tuesday. Most of the reports we’ve heard are from shallow water. New Haven and Clinton breakwaters are worth a shot.
