The 2015 Providence Boat Show may be history, but the members of the Edgewood Yacht Club will be savoring the memories for a while yet. Sixty-one members of the Cranston, Rhode Island-based club showed up to secure First Place in the show’s inaugural Yacht Club Challenge. According to Challenge organizer John Trezenga, 11 clubs participated in the event, traveling from as far away as Westerly, Rhode Island, and Rockport, Massachusetts.

“The turnout gives us huge expectations for future Yacht Club Challenges,” said Trezenga. “Not surprisingly, we found at first that the yacht clubs were not overwhelmingly welcoming to our solicitations. However, with persistent and methodical networking, this fun, social and marine-oriented competition sold itself. We are hoping to double or triple participation next year.”

For their First Place win, the Edgewood Yacht Club received a case of Keel Vodka and will also have a special Keel Vodka drink named for the club. The club also takes possession of the Providence Boat Show Challenge Cup—a perpetual trophy. The prize and trophy will be awarded on February 10, 2015.
