Explorer on Cusp of Pirate Treasure
September 30, 2013

Undersea explorer Barry Clifford, who discovered the wreck of the pirate ship Whydah off Cape Cod in 1984, says he’s on the brink of finally discovering the ship’s sunken treasure, according to an article on Boston.com.
Clifford says he’s found what he calls “the yellow brick road” because it’s an area literally sprinkled with gold dust running along Cape Cod’s shifting seafloor. And he believes it ultimately leads to the Whydah’s treasure.
The Whydah sank in a brutal storm in 1717 with plunder from 50 ships on board.
