Fairfield, CT, Boater Committed Suicide

The Fairfield Citizen reports that the boater who was found dead on the mudflats in the Norwalk Islands on April 17 died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the police.  The body of William Sapone, 61, was found after a search by Fairfield police and fire units, the Westport police, the Norwalk police and the Coast Guard after he was reported missing on Tuesday evening, April 16. Sapone’s rowboat was found washed up on Cockenoe Island. A year earlier, Sapone was rescued in Southport Harbor when his kayak overturned.
