Fall River Harbormaster Saves Swan

On Oct. 2, the Fall River Harbormaster’s Department responded to a call concerning a swan in distress at the southern end of the Taunton River. Asst. Harbormaster Paul Borges arrived on scene to find the bird entangled in the cords of 3 helium balloons.

Borges brought the 35-pound waterfowl aboard his vessel and safely removed the cords, which were wrapped around bird’s legs. The swan was able to fly off under its own power.
