Fall River-to-Block Island Ferry Makes First Run
July 23, 2012
Block Island Times: There was one additional ferry docked at Old Harbor [Block Island] on Saturday, June 23.
The Manitou, a one-time regular of the Interstate Navigation fleet, departed at 9:00 a.m. on its maiden voyage from Fall River, Massachusetts. It arrived at the island at approximately noon, then left at about 4:00 p.m. to return to Fall River.
It seems that the trial run proved to be a success. The ferry was close to sold out, said Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce President Robert A. Mellion. Of the 300 seats available, 280 boarded the boat, each paying $35 or a roundtrip ticket.
