Feds to Study Environmental Impact of Wind Farm Construction

Feds to Auction 4 Offshore Wind Farm Sites

The Block Island Times reports that the federal Bureau of Ocean Management has embarked on a 5-year study to “acquire real-time observations of the construction and initial operation of wind facilities to aid the evaluation of environmental effects of future facilities.”

The environmental analysis will include “estimates of air emissions, sound produced by the activities, sea floor disturbance by cabling, and potential discharges from vessels, to name a few.” The report states that “better estimates of these activities will result in mitigation measures that appropriately reduce or eliminate the impacts.”

The study is being undertaken by a company called HDR Environmental, Operations and Construction, Inc.
