Fire Reported at Hinckley Boatyard in Maine

On Tuesday morning, Feb. 28, firefighters responded to a fire at the Hinckley Company boatyard in Southwest Harbor, Maine, according to the Mount Desert Islander. The fire caused little damage, but could have become a significant blaze if firefighters hadn’t responded quickly.

It was later determined that a propane pipe had broken, and the escaping gas was ignited by a pilot light in a vaporizer unit designed to warm the propane in cold weather. Fortunately, the flames were blown away from any combustible material. No boats were damaged at the yard.
