Fish-Print Shop to Open in Salem, MA
May 15, 2011
Joe Higgins, an avid kayak fisherman and artist, has announced the opening of a new gyotaku fish-printing shop, gallery and educational center in Salem, Massachusetts.
“It will be a place where you can bring a fish and print it, should you decide to keep it,” says Higgins, who has provided gyotaku art for New England Boating’s Weekly Bite fishing report section. The shop will be open from June to November.
“I will have some of my current prints on display, but will also be bringing in some other artists such as Mike Savlen, Charlie Harden and others to showcase their fish art or fish sculptures,” says Higgins. “We’ll also have work by other gyotaku artists from around the country.”
The shop will also allow kids to make prints using rubber fish at no cost on paper. The kids gyotaku workshops will take place Wednesdays and some weekday mornings.
