Fishing Vessel Overcome By Ice in Cape Cod Bay

Cape Cod Times: A 30’ commercial fishing boat had to be towed off Cape Cod Bay on Friday, Jan. 5, after being overcome by ice that threatened to sink the vessel, according to Dennis [MA] officials.

The boat, the Shuck’n Around, had been purchased by Wellfleet resident Michael Kubiak, who was sailing it from New Bedford when the 30’ vessel became disabled, said Deputy Harbormaster William McKenzie. McKenzie was notified of the situation at about 1:00 p.m. by the U.S. Coast Guard, who requested the harbormaster’s help in towing the boat to shore because its boat is more suitable to towing a vessel of that size, he said.
