The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) selected Richard (Rick) J. Warren of Bangor, Maine, as the 2012 recipient of the Lee Wulff Atlantic Salmon Conservation Award. Warren is also editor and publisher of the Bangor Daily News.

Senator Michael Meighen, Chairman of ASF (Canada), presented the award on November 13 at a dinner, held in conjunction with meetings of the ASF Board of Directors in New York City.

“For the past 5 years, Rick has worked with ASF partners in his role as co-chair of the project’s private capital campaign that has raised more than $25 million to buy and remove three dams,” said Meighen.

“When dam removal is complete, wild Atlantic salmon and 10 other species of sea-run fish will have renewed access to 1,000 miles of habitat in streams throughout the watershed that have been blocked by dams for close to 2 centuries.”
